HISTORY

Dallas Ballet Center was established prior to 1965 and was originally known as the Wilshire Academy of Dance under the direction of Phil Johnson, located at the Wilshire Theater. Later, Mary and Jim Wilcox became the owners and changed the name to the Dallas Ballet Center and moved to Northwest Hwy and Abrams.

In 1987, Brent and Judy Klopfenstein became the owners and artistic directors and moved to the present location at 8530 Abrams and Royal in 1996. The Klopfensteins have directed the studio to become one of the largest and reputable studios in the Dallas area. Dallas Ballet Company (formerly City Dance Theatre), a pre-professional non-profit organization was established in 1989 as a result of the training to further the performing opportunities for many dedicated young dancers. Dallas Ballet Center is not only known for the annual full-length classical ballet productions, but also the excellent jazz and tap programs as well as summer intensive workshops in all dance disciplines.

The DBC Tap Connection has been established under the direction of Peggy McCaslin and is noted for the excellent technique and precision performances. Dallas Ballet Center strives to be a professionally run dance studio which instills the love of dance to all students in a positive and safe learning environment, yet maintaining the highest of standards in regards to technique and performances.
