Amy Sowell
Ballet
Amy Sowell, a Dallas native, began her dance career at age 5 taking modern dance under the instruction of Jerry Bywaters Cochran (an acclaimed dancer from the Juilliard School) and started taking ballet at age 7 at Dallas Ballet Center where she also studied jazz, tap and character dance. She started teaching ballet at Dallas Ballet Center at age 17. She also studied ballet and performed in many ballets at Dallas Ballet Academy, the Krassovska School of Ballet and The Dallas Metropolitan Ballet (Etgan/Atkinson) where she performed in the Regional Dance America Southwest and auditioned for and made summer sessions for The Boston Ballet, The Joffrey Ballet, Ballet Aspen and The Pacific Northwest Ballet. She taught ballet to all ages and ran the office at Janie Christy School of Dance where she choreographed her own dances and helped with auditions. She also taught and choreographed ballets at Walnut Hill Creative School and Twist Power Yoga. Amy is also a teacher at The Lamplighter School and teaches after school ballet classes and summer camps there and at Good Shepherd Episcopal School. Amy holds a Bachelors degree in Family Financial Planning from Texas Tech University and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority where she performed annual performances from the musical “Cats”. She couldn’t do all that she does without her supportive husband, Steve, and her three wonderful children, Jack, Michael and Holly.
