Jazz & Contemporary Performance/Competition Team

The Dallas Ballet Center Contemporary Company (DBCCC), founded in 2020, is directed by Bethany Stimson. With only two seasons under their belt, DBCCC has excelled at competition and become a fun new addition to the pre-professional program at DBC. Dancers, 12-18 years old, who audition and make the team, train with Ms. Bethany on Tuesdays and Thursdays, as well as continuing their core ballet training within their level of placement at DBC. We attend competition in the late spring months and perform with Dallas Ballet Company in Les Danses d'Automne and En Avant, as well as at the Dallas Ballet Center Spring Production in late May/June.

 

We look for detail-oriented, technically advanced dancers with lots of personality! Dancers who hope to make the team should be stretching in order to have their splits on both sides, working toward a clean triple pirouette or more, pick up choreography quickly, and show lots of confidence and personality when dancing.

 

Auditions are held in late May after our last competition and before June recital. All dates and upcoming relevant info is shared on our Instagram page (@dbccontemporaryco), so follow along to keep up with the fun! 

2024-25 Auditions

We are excited to start preparing for Season 5 of DBC Contemporary Company (DBCCC). Under the leadership of Bethany Stimson, the 40+ member group has worked hard all year to perfect several new works that they will be performing at a competition in May and at the June production. Opportunities like these are just the beginning of the many great performance and training opportunities the DBC Contemporary Company has in store for its dancers.

 

Ms. Bethany would like to invite the parents of anyone entering grade 6 and up who is interested in auditioning for and/or learning more about the company to a meeting Thursday, May 16 at 6:00pm (live in-person at DBC in Studio A3). At this meeting, we will discuss the overall vision for the company and answer any questions. Topics of discussion will include:

 

  • The audition process

  • A sample rehearsal schedule

  • Anticipated costs

 

This meeting is for parents, but dancers are also welcome to attend!

 

There will be two clinics this spring to help those interested in auditioning or just furthering their contemporary and jazz skills:

Saturday, May 25, 2024 from 10:00am — 11:30am

Dancers are encouraged to attend an audition clinic hosted by Bethany Stimson and older contemporary company members. This clinic will focus on what they should expect at auditions.

COST $40

Sunday, May 19 from 2:00pm — 4:00pm.  

Intermediate/advanced technique clinic hosted by Ms. Bethany. This clinic will focus on skills and technique.

COST: $40

To anticipate interest in who will be auditioning AND those who will be returning to DBCCC,
please complete this audition form prior to the meeting on 5/16:

 

 

 

We need everyone, including the dancers who do not have to audition, to fill out this form if they intend to return to DBCCC next year. 

 

Current dancers who have been members of DBCCC for 2+ years do not have to audition again but they MUST fill out the audition form above.  

 

  • All members are required to be enrolled in ballet at Dallas Ballet Center for the 2024-25 season. We strongly encourage our dancers to take their twice weekly leveled ballet classes, but under special circumstances, if the dancer is advanced enough, we do accept teen ballet. (This must be pre-approved by Bethany Stimson).  

  • Dancers who are auditioning for contemporary company should enroll in the contemporary and jazz classes they were placed in by their current teachers.  It is encouraged for new members to continue taking their leveled classes in addition to contemporary company.  However, if changes need to be made, Ms. Bethany will help the new members adjust their schedule.  

 

Things to be working on:

  • Flexibility

  • Clean technique

  • Triple pirouette

  • Counting music

  • Personality/emotion while dancing

 

This continues to be an exciting opportunity for the studio, faculty, and dancers as we see the need to develop a professional-level training and performance company in contemporary disciplines. The choreography will include, but is not limited to, styles such as jazz, contemporary, and modern.
